It’s more important than ever to ensure our students are not just tech-savvy, but tech-wise. At Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District, we believe that Digital Citizenship is a fundamental part of our mission: “Learning for All, Learning for Life.”

Check out the message below from Technology Integrationist, Rob Kamrowski, to learn more about how we are preparing your children for a healthy, safe, and positive life online.

What is Digital Citizenship?

Digital Citizenship isn’t just about knowing how to use a computer; it’s about the character and critical thinking required to navigate the digital world. Our curriculum covers six core areas:

  • Media Balance & Well-being: Finding a healthy balance between online and offline time.

  • Privacy & Security: Learning how to protect personal information.

  • Digital Footprint & Identity: Understanding how online actions create a permanent record.

  • Relationships & Communication: Exploring the power of words and actions in digital spaces.

  • Cyberbullying, Digital Drama, & Hate Speech: Building the courage to be kind and stand up for others.

  • News & Media Literacy: Becoming critical thinkers who can identify credible information.

How We Teach It

We take a comprehensive, K-12 approach to ensure these lessons are age-appropriate, consistent, and modeled by our staff:

  • Elementary (K-5): Lessons are led by core teachers once a month.

  • Middle & High School: Topics are explored during advisory periods.

  • Library & Content Areas: Our librarians and subject-area teachers further reinforce these skills through specialized lessons and daily instruction.

Partnering with You

We want to be fully transparent about what your children are learning so that you can continue these conversations at home. You can view our detailed Digital Citizenship lan and specific lesson materials via this link.

We believe that by working together, we can empower our students to be responsible, respectful, and resilient digital citizens.
